My loving roommate, David Hwang, told me last night that my car smells funny. That’s fine, considering it smells like a wet dog and a sweaty teenage boy are both stuck inside his AC unit. But I can take comfort in something I learned in class yesterday.
Many may be familiar with the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness.” But for for a small part of history, the very opposite was true. Back in the Roman Empire, the Roman baths were world-renown for the rampant immorality practiced there. So for the early Christians striving after holiness, they avoided these baths, and would walk around the empire with a literal stench. The aroma of Christ (2 Corinthians 2:15) took on a totally different meaning at that time.
Praise God for running water and private bathrooms.

Haha… They must have practiced the metaphorical cleanliness… of the soul… Not holding grudges and repenting for sins keeping the heart light and clear.
